My Radio Mirchi Interview - The Jeeturaaj experience!..:)

If you’re from Mumbai or if you’ve been in the city lately, I’m sure you must’ve seen this hoarding at some place or the other - “Mumbai ke radio par kiska raaj - Jeeturaaj…Jeturaaj!” Two days back I found out why that saying is true!..:)

Even before my album came out, I had this one real desire - to be a guest someday on Jeeturaaj’s show on Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM. If you’ve ever heard any of his shows, you’ll know that Jeeturaaj is one of the most timepass characters on the radio - and his name is literally a brand as far as RJs are concerned! Well, whatever he sounds like on the radio - the man is as colourful and entertaining in real life!

Before we go ahead - Dont forget to tune in to Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM at 9 pm today (Saturday , April 5) to catch my interview with Jeeturaaj on his show called “Klub Mirchi”!

So we reached the Radio Mirchi studio at about 10:45 am on Thursday. Jeturaaj was in the studio doing his live show “Hi Mumbai” and came out to meet us after wrapping it up. My first impression of the guy when I saw him was - this cant be Jeeturaaj! Wearing a jazzy red shirt with a few buttons open, a scarf around the neck and shades he looked more like a Bhai - except that when this Bhai spoke, he spoke in perfect English!..:) We hit it off right away and moved on to the studio to begin the interview.

This was my sixth radio interview, and trust me, I’ve never sen an RJ with so much fluency and control over the flow of talk as Jeeturaaj. The guy knows 9 languages perfect! Watching him talk even I got into a funny and mischevious mood. We talked a bit about my album, about Mumbai , about college and school life as I played “College Days” live. I also played “Om Namah Shivaya” which I think Jeeturaaj really digged (he made me sing it a couple of more times on the show!). Then there were some wacky questions he threw at me and I gave back some really crazy answers too!..:) I also managed to steal the sheets of his listeners’ sms’ and read out some funny ones on the show as well!..:P We wrapped up the interview with “College Days”.

It is always great fun watching someone who is a master of his craft, and thats why I enjoyed the interview with Jeeturaaj. Yeah, he sure is a little wild at times!..:), but extremely professional nevertheless!

Oh and btw, there is a contest on the show as well! For all you dudes and dudettes who have not been able to pick up a copy of my album due to exams, here is your chance to win free CDs of “College Days” (with a personalized message from me). All you gotta do is sms “Radio (space) I Want Gaurav” to the number Jeeturaaj tells you on the show!..:) So make sure you’re tuned in - Saturday, 9 pm - 11 pm, Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM!

Thats it for now people, will write about the Patiala experience soon and there is also a great announcement to be made next week. So check out this blog soon!..:)

Cheers & Love,

Assam & Patiala - Two beautiful places!…two great shows! (Part 1: Assam)

Heyy Everybody,

The last few weeks have been quite busy with work related to the album promotion, so I haven’t really got a chance to write anything. But this weekend has been really cool and I’ve been chilling out. Well, a lot of people have been telling me to write my experiences of going and performing at various places. So this time I thought I’d write about two shows I recently did at two places completely new for me!..:)

One of the best things about doing live shows is that you get to travel to different places all the time! After playing at Agra and Baroda in February, I was quite excited when I was invited to perform at Sibsagar, Assam and then at Thapar College, Patiala (Punjab). Both places are known for their love towards music, so it was all the more exciting!

Day 1:
I left for Guwahati with my manager on the 11th of March. Accompanying me were Shael Oswal and his manager. Shael is also an artiste with Universal Music and has released 5 studio albums so far. (I later found out that he has a good fan following in Punjab!). Zubeen Garg and Anamika were also gonna perform at the show with us.

We reached Guwahati a few hours later. On our way from the airport to the hotel, we passed Dispur (the capital of Assam), a number of schools and colleges and also some nice local markets. The weather was warm and sunny and the beautiful “countryside” look and feel of Guwahati was becoming quite captivating. I began looking forward to our next day’s journey to Sibsagar.

We did a quick press conference in the evening for the local newspapers and TV channels and then headed for the studio of BIG 92.7 FM, where I had a live interview along with RJ Hansraj & RJ Nirmali! It ended up being one of the best radio interviews I’ve done! Firstly cuz we were live for almost an hour and half. I had my guitar along and played “Om Namah Shivaya”, “College Days” & “Manzil” from the album! I also played one of my favourite songs called “Black” by Pearl Jam after a really long time! We spoke about my album, live shows etc and I also dabbled with a bit of Assamese!..:) The best part of the whole thing however was the number of sms’ we received from youngsters saying how they were enjoying my songs! It was great fun!

I wrapped up day one with a great jam session with the local band. We were set for the next day’s show!

Day 2:
The drive from Guwahati to Sibsagar was 7 hours long! The highlight of the journey was the Kaziranga Wildlife Sanctuary that we passed through. I got to see the famous one-horned Rhinocerous & also a wild elephant! (Been ages since I saw a wild animal! The last one I saw was way back in school - in the principal’s office!..:P) Anyways, the other splendid thing about Assam is its world famous “tea”, which I kept having throughout the journey. Extremely fresh and strong…I wish I had brought some back with me! Damn!

Finally we reached the venue at Sibsagar. The crowd was looking good and I went out on stage and performed songs from my album. We played “Om Namah Shivaya” & “College Days” and a few covers. It was a high energy set. After the show a lot of youngsters came backstage and it was great to see that they loved College Days & ONS! Assam has a great culture for music, especially rock and I thoroughly enjoyed playing there. (Check out Orkut for the pics from the show!:

Finally, on the drive back to Guwahati the next day, I couldn’t help but notice the innocence and simplicity on the faces of the people in the countryside - something which you will never get to see in a city like Mumbai! Visiting different places in India also tells you how diverse this country is and yet there is a common thread running between all of us! Its really amazing!..:)

Anyways, I am really looking forward to performing once again in Assam, this time maybe at a college fest! Cheers to all you people out there in Assam who sent such wonderful messages on the radio and then on Orkut & Facebook! Love you guys!..:)

That’s it for now, will write about the Patiala show soon and also something else that’s really exciting! So keep checking out this space for more!..:)

Cheers & Keep Rocking!

Heyy Everybody!

Heyy Everybody,

This is my very first post on this blog! Firstly, I hope you like the new look of the website. A big thanks to my friends Jatin, Shama and Manisha for designing it! Maybe you guys deserve a party!..:p

Anyways, its been going great ever since the album has been released! Thanks to all those who’ve been writing in messages on Orkut & Youtube! Our Orkut community has just grown to over 200 members while the video for College Days on Youtube just hit the 50K mark!..:) “College Days” has also entered the Radio Mirchi charts at No. 7 this week! So we’re doing fine!..:)

Most importantly, special thanks to all those who have purchased the album! Hope you’re enjoying the music & please write to me at gaurav@gauravonline.com! I would love to know from you about your favourite songs from the album. Also if you’re in Mumbai, I’d love to write a special message for you on your CD!.:)

More news is that I’ll be going to Guwahati and Patiala to perform in the second week of March! Two places I’ve never been to before, so looking forward to that! We’ll also be putting up the clips and pictures of my shows at the Taj Mahotsav, Agra; MS University, Baroda and RAIT Mumbai soon! It was great playing at all these three places!

Thats it for now!…keep watching this space for some cool announcements soon!..:-)

Cheers!
